DURHAM PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
The Durham Performing Arts Center is a 103,000 square foot, 2,800 seat proscenium theatre designed to accommodate touring stage shows, concerts, and locally produced performances. A+S Design worked with Szostak Design, co-developer, to produce custom finishes that would complement the architecture of the building, while still maintaining budgetary parameters.
Custom carpet in the public areas flows from the stairs, upward to the lobbies and into the performance hall. The walls of the performance hall are wrapped with a custom acoustical fabric, developed alongside Suzanne Tick, that shimmers as you walk past. Custom upholstery fabric was developed in conjunction with Knoll textiles to meet budget and performance requirements.
The monochromatic palette reinforces the energy performances create and a space for North Carolina to host a number of shows. DPAC was listed year after year in the top 5 attendance ranking theaters in the world in Pollstar magazine making It one of the most wildly successful venues in the country.
